Free and easily-accessible AI programs are becoming increasingly prevalent and sophisticated. Some possible tasks performed by these programs include code writing/troubleshooting, image/audio generation, and providing in-depth information on a wide range of topics.
Their abilities may be astounding, but the limitations are just as apparent. Most creative works are first started with the formulation of a purpose, to elicit a specific action, thought, or emotion. I believe this to be the most fundamental difference between human and AI creators; for the purpose of the AI’s creation is solely to predict and provide the desired output per the given prompt, typically providing a distorted reference with shallow and vapid features. That’s not to say that AI programs can’t create stimulating images and other works of art, they most definitely can!
This week I played with the AI programs OpenAI and Midjourney to produce 5 haikus, I then used the haikus as prompts to generate supplemental images. While I did enjoy fiddling with prompts to explore outcomes, the haikus and images contained in this post are unedited and raw as possible - I did not want to obscure faults that would typically be avoided by a conscious creator.
Marbles in a jar
Colors swirling, memories
Of childhood at play
Rolling on the ground
Marbles make a pleasing sound
Nature's symphony
A collector's pride
Rare marbles, precious gems
Timeless beauty found
In hands they turn round
Marbles, ageless, smooth and cool
Eternity found
Marbles in a game
Win or lose, it's all the same
Fun, forever, true
